Post-Emergent Weed Control
How We Control Weeds Without Soaking Your Lawn in Chemicals
If you’ve ever worked with a traditional lawn company, you’ve likely experienced the “blanket spray” approach. During most visits, the entire lawn gets coated in herbicide whether it needs it or not.
We do things differently.
At Natural State Horticare, post-emergent weed control is precise, intentional, and dramatically reduced. It’s one of the biggest reasons our clients choose us.
Our Philosophy: Spot Spray Only
Instead of spraying your entire lawn, we:
Identify weeds individually
Treat only what needs to be treated
Leave the rest of your lawn untouched
This approach reduces herbicide use by up to 10x compared to industry standards.
To put that into perspective:
Typical company: ~50 gallons of herbicide per year on a 6,500 sq ft lawn
Our approach: ~5 gallons for the same level of control
That’s safer for:
Kids
Pets
Pollinators
Our technicians
Your soil over time
And most importantly… it works just as well (often better) because it’s targeted and thoughtful.
Our Seasonal Weed Control Strategy
We don’t use one product all year. That wouldn’t work.
Different weeds emerge at different times, so we rotate our mixes to stay ahead of them while preventing resistance.
Here’s exactly how we approach it:
Winter to Early Spring (January – March)
Broadleaf mix (henbit, chickweed, clover):
Vessel
Patriot
Quicksilver
Winter grass control (especially Poa annua):
Revolver
💡 Why this matters:
Cool-season weeds are aggressive early in the year. If we knock them out now, your lawn has a much cleaner start heading into spring.
Spring Through Fall (March – October)
Broadleaf + sedge mix:
Celsius
Patriot
Recognition
Summer grass control:
Manuscript (for crabgrass and similar weeds)
💡 Why this matters:
Warm-season weeds require completely different chemistry. Rotating products ensures:
Better control
Less resistance buildup
Healthier turf long-term
Let’s Be Honest: This Isn’t “Chemical-Free”
We believe in transparency.
We do use herbicides when necessary
Our program is not fully organic
Pre-emergent applications are applied more broadly for safer and effective weed prevention.
These treatment drastically reduce the about of post-emergent weed control used per year.
But here’s the difference:
👉 We use as little as possible, only where necessary, and only the safest effective options available
That’s how we consistently reduce overall chemical use by 80–90% without sacrificing results.
