Spittlebug Treatment
Protection for Active Pest Pressure
If youβre receiving this treatment, it means your property meets a few specific criteria:
Weβve identified moderate to severe Spittlebug (click to learn more about spittlebugs) activity across a large portion of your lawn.
Spot treatments are NOT enough to effectively control the issue.
Youβre NOT currently on our Turf Pest Prevention
Weβve scheduled a full-lawn (or large-area) pest control application to stop the spread and stabilize the turf as quickly as possible. However, we strongly recommend a preventive approach given the scale and severity of the issue going forward.
What Weβre Applying
For widespread spittlebug outbreaks, we utilize a professional-grade systemic insecticide designed specifically for sap-feeding insects.
How it works:
Absorbed into the turf and moves systemically throughout the plant
Ingested by spittlebugs as they feed on grass blades
Bypasses the protective foam layer that shields spittlebugs from contact products
Provides residual control to protect against reinfestation across the entire lawn
The Unfortunate Reality of Reactive Pest Control
Transparency matters here. This treatment is designed to stop the damage, not reverse it overnight.
Once pests have begun feeding:
Some areas of turf may already be weakened or thinning
You may notice discoloration or patchy areas
Damaged grass will need time to recover or fill back in.
Reactive VS Preventative Approach
There are two ways to manage turf-damaging insects:
1. Reactive Spot Treatments (What Youβre Receiving)
Applied only when pest activity is detected
The product used to control an active spittlebug infestation is NOT ideal.
The treatment will save the lawn, but it can harm beneficial insects and does carry a general pesticide CAUTION label.
Effective when caught early
Some damage may occur before intervention
Spittlebug populations can explode in 24-48 hrs. We have often not been on the property frequently enough to catch the issue before damage occurs.
Spittlebug control is nuanced. Just because you have a few spittlebugs does not necessarily mean you need a treatment. Most lawns can withstand a small spittlebug population without intervention.
Damaged grass will need time to recover or fill back in.
2. Turf Pest Prevention (Recommended)
Our Turf Pest Prevention (TPP) program is designed to stop these issues before they ever start.
Applied once annually
Stops pests like grubs, spittlebugs, and armyworms BEFORE they do damage
Uses reduced-risk products that are SAFE FOR KIDS, PESTS, POLINATORS, AND BENEFICIAL INSECTS.
This fact can NOT be overstated. This product is MUCH safer than any other control method.
Includes FREE FOLLOW-UP TREATMENTS if breakthrough activity occurs
Simply put:
Spot treatment = reaction
Prevention = protection
Pre & Post-Treatment Instructions
Allow at least 1 hour before re-entry.
We will leave a clearly visible service sign with the date and time of application, so you and your maintenance crew can easily follow the recommended re-entry window. This helps protect anyone working in the landscape and ensures the treatment is not disrupted before it has time to fully take effect.
There is NO need to water this treatment in.
