Agronomists, Not Hippies
Organics sound nice, but my lawn needs the strong stuff…
One of the biggest misconceptions we fight is the idea that “organic” means weak.
We understand where that concern comes from.
When you want a golf-course lawn or your lawn is struggling, you understandably want results fast. If the turnaround is not immediate, it can be tempting to think:
“Maybe organics just aren’t strong enough. Maybe we need one of the more traditional companies that uses “the strong stuff” to get the results we want.”
That is an unfortunate misunderstanding of who we are and how our program works.
Natural State Horticare is not a “save-the-planet at the expense of results” lawn company. We are not a low-input, low-power organic-only program. We are a premium, agronomically advanced fertility program designed to build healthier soil, stronger roots, better nutrient uptake, deeper color, thicker turf, and long-term lawn performance.
Yes, we use as many organic inputs as we can.
Yes, we do prioritize the health and safety of our clients (and our technicians).
But organics are only one part of the system.
They Forgot About the Soil!
Traditional lawn care companies often focus heavily on one thing: applying nitrogen to create a quick green-up.
Feeding the grass nitrogen while ignoring the soil is like going to the gym without fixing your diet. You may increase your muscle mass, but you won’t necessarily become healthier.
That can temporarily make a lawn look better, but it does not necessarily make the lawn healthier. In many cases, repeated fertilizer applications without soil improvement can create a lawn that is dependent, shallow-rooted, inefficient, and more vulnerable to heat, drought, weeds, pests, and disease.
Our approach is different.
We go deeper than, “How do we make this lawn green this month?”
We ask the questions that help us create a lawn that improves year after year.
We are asking:
Is the soil healthy?
Is it compact or hydrophobic?
Do we need to add services such as Liquid Aeration or the potassium-rich Recovery Blend to improve stress tolerance?
What is the pH (we soil test every lawn)?
What is the condition of the root systems?
Are there active pests or diseases?
We offer preventative treatments such as Turf Pest Prevention & Fungal Agronomics.
Are the mowing practices correct?
We offer lots of helpful advice for proper maintenance that is customized to your grass type, like Zoysia, Bermuda, and St. Augustine.
Are the watering practices correct?
If not, we offer custom programming, aka Irrigation Optimization.
That is the difference between a basic fertilizer program and a true agronomic fertility program.
True Agronomists Understand Fertility Starts Below the Surface
A lawn is only as strong as the soil supporting it.
You can apply fertilizer to poor soil and get some response. But if the soil is compacted, biologically depleted, highly acidic, low in organic matter, or unable to hold and exchange nutrients efficiently, the plant will never reach its full potential.
That is why our program invests heavily in soil health.
Throughout the year, we incorporate liquid organic biostimulants, carbon-rich inputs, humic substances, kelp-based materials, compost extracts, and other soil-supporting ingredients designed to improve the growing environment around the roots.
These soil-focused treatments are not “weak fertilizer.” They are catolists that enhance the 3 Rounds of controlled-release nitrogen we apply each year.
Healthy soil helps nutrients stay available longer, move more efficiently into the root zone, and become more accessible to the plant. Instead of chasing short-term color with repeated blasts of nitrogen, we are building the foundation that allows the turf to perform at a higher level.
PGA Quality Products
We use advanced professional fertilizers that are far beyond traditional programs, which almost all other companies use. These materials are designed for controlled nutrient release, improved efficiency, reduced burn potential, better uptake, and more consistent performance over time.
Instead of relying on one type of nitrogen, we use multiple nitrogen sources to provide both immediate and sustained feeding.
Instead of applying fertilizer in a way that creates a quick flush followed by a crash, we spoon-feed the lawn strategically throughout the season. This is much closer to a golf-course style fertility model than a traditional “dump it and move on” approach.
The result is a more consistent lawn, better color stability, stronger growth, and less wasted fertility.
Micronutrients Matter
Most people think of fertilizer in terms of three numbers: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
Those nutrients matter. A lot. But they are not the whole story.
Plants also need micronutrients to perform at their best. Elements like iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc, copper, and others play important roles in color, photosynthesis, enzyme function, stress response, and overall plant health.
That is why our liquid fertility treatments include a full micronutrient package.
This is one of the clearest differences between a basic lawn care program and a premium agronomic program. We are not simply pushing top growth. We are feeding the plant more completely.
A lawn that receives both macronutrients and micronutrients has a much better chance of developing deep color, strong growth, better stress tolerance, and long-term health.
Recovery Takes Time
We know clients want to see improvement quickly. We want that too.
But the truth is that some lawns cannot be fully turned around overnight. If a lawn has compacted soil, poor rooting, heavy thatch, acidic soil, irrigation problems, fungal scarring, pest damage, or years of low-quality fertility, it may take time to rebuild.
That does not mean the program is weak.
When a plant experiences a decline, outward signs can be delayed. The underlying cause may not be obvious, and it may have existed long before symptoms first appeared.
Reversing the damage takes time. First, we have to identify the true cause of the damage. Once that is addressed properly, the plant can begin to heal. Unfortunately, plants don’t often heal overnight, and in a weakened state, any additional stresses can cause significant setbacks.
Premium Lawn Care Is More Than Results
It is a given that we will do everything possible to create the healthiest, thickest, safest, and most resilient lawns in Central Arkansas.
But…
Mother Nature has her own plans, and we are playing by her rules. Things will go wrong. Disease is inevitable, irrigation heads break, and winter storms are brutal!
Premium lawn care means accurate diagnostics, professional customer service, and quickly implementing agronomically sound solutions.
Perfection is the goal, but when things go sideways, how is it handled? That is the true test, and truly premium lawn care has to be held to that standard.
The Natural State Horticare Difference
We are not trying to be the cheapest lawn care company.
We are trying to be the best.
That means using better products, better timing, better training, better communication, and a more complete understanding of turf health.
Our fertility program is one of the clearest examples of that philosophy.
It is not weak organics.
It is not basic fertilizer.
It is not a watered-down version of traditional lawn care.
It is a premium, science-based fertility system that combines the best of organic soil-building with advanced professional-grade fertility.
Better soil.
Better nutrient efficiency.
Better plant health.
Better long-term results.
That is the difference.
That is why we do what we do.
And that is why we believe this is the most powerful lawn fertility program in Arkansas.
